Zesco United striker Enock Sakala has said he is disappointed that his ambitions to score more goals in the Caf Champions League has come to an end.
Sakala was Zesco’s top scorer in this seasons Caf Champions League on five goals before the Ndola sides semifinal interest ended last week with a 3-2 away defeat at Kano Pillars of Nigeria to subsequently finish 3rd in Group A when they beat Al Hilal of Sudan 2-0 over the weekend.
“My target was to score more goals and get top scorers spot,” Sakala, who scored Zesco’s opening goal in their final game against Al Hilal in that 2-0 Group A win in Lusaka on Saturday, said.
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old striker said Zesco had come out of this years Caf Champions League campaign with valuable lessons.
“We have gained experience and we have moved a step forward,” Sakala said.
Sakala said the win over Al Hilal had also given them a boost ahead of Wednesday big Copperbelt derby away against Power Dynamos in Kitwe in a Faz Premier League rescheduled Week19 fixture.
“We are now focusing and moving to the local league and this win has given us a boost before we play Power on Wednesday,” he said.
South African High Commissioner to Zambia Moses Chikane says the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region has done fairly well in combating the negative effects of the global financial crisis.
Mr Chikane says the SADC region has managed to put in place positive and sound economic interventions that have helped in lessening the negative effects of the global financial recession.
He said SADC states are an interesting family of young democracies that engage themselves in their quest to find their feet economically.
The South African High Commissioner noted that the global recession had negative effects on many sectors of the economy in SADC and the African continent in general.
Mr Chikane told ZANIS in an interview that despite financial recession affecting many sectors of the region’s economy, SADC has done fairly well economically.
Mr Chikane has however called on SADC states to coordinate the transport system in the region in order to boost the tourism industry in the region.
He said without proper coordination of the transport system, the hospitality will continue having flight problems it is currently facing.
Mr Chikane said there is need for SADC states to begin a one stop traveling system especially in the aviation sector.
He said this would make it possible for small airlines to fly to places where bigger airlines have no interest in.
When the Lord Jesus gave the great commission to His followers to go into all the world, in order to make disciples (new followers) of all nations, His expectation could not have been that only these approximately one hundred and twenty (Acts 1:15) followers of His will manage to fulfill this great task with the limited resources of their time. The only way this task could be accomplished was by passing on the commission to whoever becomes a follower so they can also pass it on.
On the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1) the number of followers had increased through the preaching of Peter and the eleven (Acts 2:14) and on that day about three thousand souls were added to the followers of Jesus (Acts 2:41). From that time people were being added daily to the Church, but we do not see these disciples going out of Jerusalem into other far geographical areas as per command (..into all the world – Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8b). Not until a great persecution rose against the Church, which was at Jerusalem do we see them move into other regions and as they went, they continued to spread the gospel and fulfill the great commission.
In Acts 8:4-8, Philip went to a city in Samaria and the Lord used him to influence the city for Christ. In the same chapter and verses 26-38 Philip preaches to a eunuch, who was a man of great authority in Ethiopia. The Lord by divine arrangement chose to minister to this person, as he was one of the “links” to passing on the great commission to Africans.
In the early Church persecution was the vehicle that accelerated obedience to the command of taking the gospel to the ends of the earth. The Lord wants us to carry on the great commission in the West no matter the reasons that caused us to migrate. Many in the West have heard about Christ but they have not ‘seen Him.’ Christ said, “As my Father has sent Me, I also send you (John 20:21).” As Christ represented the Father, so our need to represent Him wherever we are by doing what we see Him do (John 5:19). We have been sent and authorised by Jesus Christ to do His works (John 14:12). As some have said, “Preach Christ, if necessary use words,” and also, “Actions speaks louder than words.”

In the Bible, David had all kinds of challenges. People lied about him, accused him, and tried to kill him. In Psalm 59 he says, “My enemies are coming against me like vicious dogs trying to destroy me. But as for me, what am I going to do? I will sing about Your power. And I will shout for joy for You are my refuge, my place of safety in my day of distress.”
Notice, in David’s time of need, he wasn’t sitting around having a pity party and complaining. He decided to sing about the greatness of God. He was saying in effect, “My enemies may be powerful, but I know my God is all powerful. My obstacles may be high, but I know my God is the Most High.” He wasn’t talking to God about how big his problems were; he was talking to his problems about how big his God was!
Do you need to change your song today? Instead of complaining and thinking about what you’re not, start thanking God for what you are becoming. Just like David, stay in faith and sing to the Lord knowing that He’s going to complete what He’s started in you.

Zesco United romped into the sunset today with US$500,000 after beating Al Hilal of Sudan 2-0 at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka in the two sides final CAF Champions League Group A match.
The win was Zesco’s first home win in Group A after two home draws and end their debut pool stage campaign on 8 points to finish in 3rd spot.
It was a poor game all-round and it only came to life after a 0-0 first half that saw little in terms of premium continental club football.
Zesco secured their 3rd place finish courtesy of goals from two substitutes who both came on after the hour-mark.
63rd minute sub Enock Sakala was on target on 77 minutes with a drooping header bringing some life in this boring tie.
The goal was Sakala’s 5th of the competition and his first in Group A after earlier finding the target with four goals in the previous rounds on the road to qualifying to the lucrative pool stage.
Nicholas Zulu sealed the win in the 81st minute just six minutes after coming on with a header of his own to see Zesco finish on 8 points.
Zulu’s goal was his first in all competition this year.
Al Hilal are already through to the semifinals in October thanks to their unassailable 10 points.
The Sudanese club will know who they face in the semifinals after the final standings from the Group B matches on Sunday are known.

Reclusive winger Danny Hangunyu has received a shock call-up to the provisional Zambia national team named ahead of the sides Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup quarterfinal match against Namibia next month in Zimbabwe.
The ex-Red Arrows left-winger is one of four foreign-based players Herve Renard has added to 30-man provisional Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup team named today.
Others are Rogers Kola from Lamontville Golden Arrows of South Africa, defender of South African league champions SuperSport United and signs Chibambo of Heartlands in Nigeria.
Renard has made a bold move to hand the Angolan-based winger who has spurned junior and later senior call-ups to player at the highest of his career from 2002 to 2004 before heading west.
It will be interesting to see whether Hangunyu has finally shaded his reluctant hero character and will heed to the call four years after leaving the local scene.

Weston Mumba has made a comeback to Faz Premier League coach with a return to Lusaka dynamos.
Mumba returns to Dynamos after three months out of the game following his dismissal by Nakambala Leopards whom he h helped guide back to promotion at the end of last season.
He takes over from Wesley Mondo who has left the country to take charge of Botswana club Mochudi Centre Chiefs where he in turn replaced Beston Chambeshi, now at Power Dynamos.
Mumba previously coached Dynamos and Zamsure and was a number 2 at Zanaco until 2007 before moving to Nakambala.
Meanwhile, ex-Power coach Mohamed Fathy has secured a 2-year contract with 6-time Zimbabwe champions Highlanders.
Fathy returns to the bench just a month after Power dynamos dismissed him from the job.
And there will be only one top flight game this weekend with Chambishi host Konkola played in a delayed week 22 match.
This is to make way for the Caf African Champions League Group A match between Zesco United and Al Hilal of Sudan that will be played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka on Saturday, September 19.

President Rupiah Banda is concerned with the slow pace at which the National Constitution Conference is operating.
The president has since called on delegates to make sacrifices and complete deliberations on schedule.
He says the twelve months given to the NCC expired and he has given the conference another four months in which to conclude its business.
Mr. Banda was speaking during the ceremonial opening of the fourth session of the Tenth National Assembly in Lusaka on Friday.
The official opening of parliament has been brought foward due to a change in the budget cycle.
In this session the house will debate and approve the budget to be implemented from January to December next year.
During the same address President Banda directed the Ministry of Local Government and Housing to abolish crop levies charged on farmers by local authorities.
Mr. Banda said levies cause problems for farmers in marketing their produce.
He also said government is rehabilitating silos countrywide to ensure crops do not go to waste due to inadequate storage facilities.
And the President said the fight against animal diseases will be strengthened next year.
He said disease control zones and breeding centres will be established to promote the livestock sector, which is essential for food security.
President Banda also announced the formation of a team of eminent persons to spear head planting of trees to curb deforestation.
The President says the team will be headed by First Republican President, Kenneth Kaunda.
Mr. Banda also said government has started revising the forest policy to deal with the high rate of deforestation.
He said issues concerning the environment and natural resources can have a negative effect on Zambia’s achievements if not properly handled.
Mr. Banda also said government will present to Parliament a bill aimed to enhance conservation of wildlife.
He also said government will revise the national water policy.
Vice President George Kunda is scheduled to arrive in Kasama to grace the 2009 Ukusefya Pang’wena traditional ceremony of the Bemba speaking people.
According to the programme from the provincial administration made available to ZANIS in Kasama today, the Vice President is scheduled to touch down at Kasama Airport at 09:30 hours.
Mr Kunda will thereafter make a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief Chitimukulu before officiating at the Ukusefya Pang’wena ceremony.
Later in the afternoon the Vice President is expected to meet the MMD Provincial and District Committee members, as well as the Kasama Central Constituency Executive Committee members, to be followed up a private dinner organized in his honour.
On Sunday, Vice President Kunda will first attend a church service at Saint Johns Cathedral, before departing for Chishimba Falls where he will launch the Tourism Week.
On the same day in the afternoon, the Vice President will address an MMD rally at Chilubula Basic School to drum up support for MMD candidate in the forthcoming Kasama central Parliamentary By election Burton Mugala.
On Monday, Vice President Kunda will officiate at the Ground Breaking ceremony for a US$9 million Water Project at Kapoka Village, before inspecting an irrigation project and maize purchasing exercise in Lukulu North Farm Block located within Kasama.
Later, the Vice President is scheduled to address a second MMD rally at Chishimba Basic School in the afternoon.
Mr Kunda is on Tuesday scheduled to tour Chikumanino and Town Center Markets, before launching Phase One of the Street lighting exercise in Kasama town, before his departure for Lusaka at around 14:30 hours.
The Kasama Parliament seat fell vacant following the resignation of incumbent PF Member of Parliament Savior Chishimba.
Six candidates are contesting in the by election which is scheduled to take place on October 15.
The PF/UPND are fielding Georfrey Mwamba, while Alexander Chansa is standing on the UNIP ticket.
Others are All People Congress (APC) Maggie Ng’ona, while Pastor Christy Ntalasha and Muhammad Ayoub are standing as independents.
The number of pupils quarantined for suspected swine flu fever has risen to eight with Thomson hospital recording three admissions while Luanshya mine hospital has registered two more cases.
Luanshya District Commissioner George Kapu confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview today.
Kapu has ordered the suspension all social gatherings and functions to avoid the spread of the disease until the specimen results are known.
Yesterday three pupils from Luanshya mine trust school were quarantined at Luanshya mine hospital for suspected swine flu.
And Luanshya mine hospital chief medical officer Borniface Zulu told ZANIS interview that the results were not ready and were expected over the weekend.
The trust school has since been closed as a measure to prevent the spread of the disease.
And One hundred and twenty pupils at Ndola’s Technical School for Girls have been quarantined for suspected Swine Flu.
Ministry of Health Spokesperson, Kamoto Mbewe, told ZNBC news in Lusaka on Friday that the affected pupils are on symptomatic treatment for Swine Flu.
Dr. Mbewe said pupils at the school have been asked to stay home while medical experts are investigating the disease.
And Dr. Mbewe disclosed that two new swine flu cases have been recorded in Lusaka.
President Rupiah BandaA busy schedule awaits President Rupiah Banda next week when he arrives here in New York for the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly, whose deliberations have commenced on September 15, 2009 at a lower level.
Among the many activities that await President Banda is his address of the UN General Assembly on Thursday, September 24th, 2009.
He will also participate in bilateral diplomacy talks with various heads of state and government that would be attending the General Assembly.
Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Lazarous Kapambwe said this when he met the Zambian advance team in New York, today, that President Banda would also meet US President Barak Obama when the latter meets various heads of state and government from the sub-Saharan African region next week.
Mr. Obama is expected to hold talks with Sub-Saharan African leaders to discuss the relationship between this region and the United States of America.
Ambassador Kapambwe further disclosed that the President will also meet United States of American business houses and people where he will showcase Zambia’s business opportunities.
“He is also expected to participate in the launch of ALMA, which is the African Leaders Malaria Alliance, which will be launched by President Jakaya Kikwete here,” he said.
First Lady Tandiwe Banda who is accompanying the President will have a separate programme she will participate. Also in the delegation are several cabinet ministers and other top government officials.
Meanwhile, security has tightened at the UN secretariat as scores of heads of state and government are expected in New York in the next few days for the UN General Assembly.
The President is afterwards expected to connected to travel to Cuba for a three day State visit at the invitationof his counterpart Raul Castro Ruz.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon will convene the summit on climate change on Tuesday, September 2009 in which over 90 member states will participate. UN has a total of 192 member states around the world.
The objective of this summit on climate change is to mobilise political will and generate the momentum needed to reach an ambitious agreement at the UN Climate Conference that will be held in Copenhagen in December 2009.
Mr. Ki-Moon will also hold a luncheon that would bring together representatives of government, business, civil society and the UN to discuss how to build positive momentum for climate negotiations and the role of business and industry in finding solutions to climate change.
Other key issues the Assembly will address are Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), world financial and economic crisis and its impact on development, disarmament, UN reforms, including Security Council reform and revitalization of the General Assembly.
It will also review the peace building commission and the Human Rights Council as well as consider issues relating to system wide coherence, sustainable development and HIV/AIDS.
The General Assembly was established in 1945 under the UN Charter as a chief deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the UN.

Matero Member of Parliament (MP) Faustina Sinyangwe has expressed worry at the increase in the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in her constituency.
The HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in Matero is at 31 percent which is significantly higher than other constituencies some with prevalence rates as low as 3 percent.
Ms Sinyangwe told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that it was very unfortunate that the prevalence rate for HIV/AIDS in Matero was increasing.
She said a lot needs to be done to help reduce the trend in her constituency.
The Matero MP cited that the prevalence rate has continued to increase because of the ever growing population in the area.
She also noted that excessive alcohol and the practice of illicit sex have also made a significant contribution to the increased HIV/AIDS prevalence rate.
Ms Sinyangwe said lack of proper sensitization and education on the disease has also contributed to the increase in the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate.
She said there was need for enough resources in order to carry out proper sensitization and education in the area on the pandemic.
Opposition Zambia Development Conference (ZADECO) National Chairman Langtone Sichone says there is nothing sinister about second republican president Dr. Frederick Chiluba interacting with President Rupiah Banda.
Mr Sichone says Dr. Chiluba is a Zambian citizen who is free to mingle with anyone regardless of status.
He says it is not right for some individuals, members of the civil society and other stakeholders to try and bar Dr. Chiluba from mixing with the Head of State.
Mr Sichone was speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today.
He wondered why the public is quiet on first republican president Kenneth Kaunda who is freely mingling with other very important people including President Banda but just concentrated on questioning Dr. Chiluba’s friendship.
Meanwhile, Mr Sichone has urged Zambians to respect the out-come of the acquittal case of Dr. Chiluba.
Mr Sichone said the acquittal of the former head of State translates that the judiciary is independent adding that the three executive arms of government were fully exercised and utilised.
